The 2011-2012 Montreal Canadiens Season – Thank God That’s Over
But now it’s over.
Last night les Canadiens defended home ice one last time in the 2011-2012 season, beating the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 and ending both teams’ seasons.
In fact, one of the only bright spots in this dismal season is the fact that we ended up with an even record against the Leafs.
A fired head coach
A fired GM
An unhappy and traded sniper
Andrei Markov missing approximately 85% of the season due to injury
A 30% drop in Power Play production
Carey’s late season concussion
16 OT and shoot-out loses
Finishing last in the conference and missing the play-offs
However, as one season ends another begins. That’s right, the 2012-2013 season starts today for the Habs. The search for a GM and new head coach needs to be wrapped up sooner rather than later. The draft decision needs to be poured over. The free agency strategy has to be put together. The on ice identity of the team needs to be forged. And it needs to start now!
For my money the only Canadiens that need to remain in uniform for the start of next season as Josh Gorges, PK Subban, Carey Price, Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty. Everyone else can be moved if it means we make the team better.
I will admit that I haven’t been the best fan this year. I haven’t paid attention with the vim and vigor that I’ve shown in the past. I haven’t complained when I should have. I haven’t worn my love on my sleeve as brightly as I could have. But I’m not going anywhere. I promise.
Carey Price still sits with the Justice League in my office and I gladly picked up a vintage t-shirt in Parkdale only a few weeks ago.
I love this team and organization and many of the players. But shit’s gotta change and it needs to start now!
