Waiting For The Dallas Cowboys Return To Glory

Once upon a time, a long time ago, in 1995, the Dallas Cowboys won their 3rd Super Bowl in 4 years and were America’s Team.

They were Gods on the football field and hated all over the country and the world. Kind of like the Patriots are hated now.

But I loved them. I loved Troy Aikman under center, taking snaps and making passes that won games when they needed to be won. I loved Emmitt Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher and Dancing With The Stars Champion. I loved Moose Johnston, cult hero and uber-important member of the team. I loved wide receiver Michael Irvin, through his troubled life and huge catches. And more than all of them, I loved Deion Sanders for his star status, coverage on D, return yards and catches on the offensive side of the ball. This was a team that demanded your attention and got it. They won. They were awesome. 

And now I’m waiting for it to all come back again.

Jerry Jones still owns the $2.1 Billion team with the awe inspiring stadium and the world famous cheerleaders. And, wDether you want to believe this or not, I believe that Jerry Jones wants to win more than anything else in the world.

Which brings us to now.

The current Dallas Cowboys are not the 90’s Cowboys. There’s no argument there at all. However, this isn’t a terrible team. In fact, this is a team that can win a bunch of games and get into the playoffs.

Here’s what they need to do to make that happen.

Stay healthy, we can’t have our young running back DeMarco Murray breaking his ankle, we can’t have quarterback Tony Romo breaking his collarbone. We can’t have Jason Witten slicing up his spleen, we can’t have any of that!

Stay productive. Wide receiver Dez Bryant has some well documented issues when it comes to playing nice off the field. He needs to get that under control and focus on the game, we need his big play ability in that number 88 jersey. We also need to see Miles Austin (who I love) keep catching balls and earning that money that fans were so happy to see him get. Murray also needs to keep doing what he was doing before the ankle injury ended his season last year. That running game is crucial. And Romo needs to step up and be the man all year long!

Trust the coaches. Jerry Jones is no dummy. Sometimes it feels like he is. But really, he’s made some good judgement calls over the years. I think he’s got a good Head Coach in Jason Garrett and an excellent Defensive Coordinator in Rob Ryan. These guys know what they’re doing and they are accompanied by a team that is just as dedicated to the cause as they are.

Get lucky. I hate to say it, but this league is so good, the conference is so good, the division is so good – that we need some luck so things can go well and we can get back to the promised land.

Will it happen this year? The odds aren’t in our favour… but they aren’t the worst.

Will it happen in the next 2-3 years? It could and it better because windows don’t stay open forever!

Will I be over the top excited and joyous and loud when the Dallas Cowboys win their next Super Bowl? Hell yes!

But first thing’s first. Beat the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 of the 2012-13 season. Kick-off’s at 4:05pm est. Go get ’em boys!
